July
1st, 2000 (Sat), Travel of Glacier Express and Going to Zermatt
|
1. Glacier Express We have departed St. Moritz at 9:30 by Glacier express, to Zermatt the village at the foot of Matterhorn. It takes about 7.5 hours between St.Moritz and Zermatt. To take all along the Glacier Express is the special feature on this tour. After leaving St. Moritz for a while, this railroad went down into the bottom of valley. Going through the long tunnels and over the loop bridges and we could have large-scale mountains and the deep v-shaped valley through the view windows of train. This railway repeats up-and-down so many times to Zermatt. We could have enjoyed the landscape along this line and had very nice time. We have reached Zermatt at 5:00pm. |

2. Zermatt (A Village at the Foot of Matterhorn) It was hot in Zermatt
when we arrived there. There is a restriction in Zermatt that the gasoline
cars cannot accept to enter into the village. So the transportation
in the village is elactric cars and carriages. So many Japanese tourists
were there and I even could find Japanese instruction in the shops here
and there. Around 7:00 in the evening, we could see the whole shape
of Matterhorn. It was really nice and neat. I have fooled around in
the village for a while and bought some souvenirs. Most of the shops
closed after 7:00 and then the village was getting quiet. |
