Major League Baseball の略で、日本では一般的に大リーグと言われているものです。
MLBは、アメリカン・リーグとナショナル・リーグの２つに分かれていて、
ア・リーグが14球団、ナ・リーグが16球団あり、計30球団で構成されています。
広いアメリカなので、各々のリーグが、
イースタン・セントラル・ウェスタンと3つのディビジョン（地区）に分かれています。
ワールドチャンピオンの決め方は、
シーズンの最後に各リーグそれぞれのディビジョンの優勝チーム3つと、
2位になった３つのチームの中で最高勝率を挙げた1チーム（ワイルドカード）が加わった
計8チームがプレイオフに進出します。
プレイオフは勝ちあがり制で、約１ヵ月にわたって行なわれます。
最後に各リーグの優勝チームがワールドシリーズを行ない、チャンピオンを決定します。
子供から大人まで、誰でもが安心して楽しめるスポーツ、それがMLBです。
カージナルス－Cardinals－は、ナショナル・リーグのセントラル・ディビジョンに属しています。
なんと言っても1998年、99年とサミー・ソーサとの間に繰り広げられた、
マーク・マグワイアのホームラン競争で一躍有名になりました。
そのマグワイアも昨シーズン引退をしてしまい、落ち込んでいたカージナルスファンに救世主が。
日本から田口選手が今シーズンから加わることになりました！
