ＡＦＣ（アメリカン・フットボール・カンファレンス）とNFC（ナショナル・フットボール・カンファレンス）
の２つに分かれ、それぞれが4つの地区（ディビジョン）に分かれています。
AFC、NFC共に16チームの計32チームで構成されています。
スーパーボウルチャンピオンの決め方は、
それぞれのカンファレンスでディビジョン優勝した4チームと、その4チームをのぞいて
勝率の高い2チーム（ワイルドカード）の6チーム、計12チームがプレーオフに進出します。
プレーオフで両カンファレンスの優勝チームが決まり、
最後に全米で紅白並みの視聴率を稼ぐスーパーボウルでの決戦となります。
セントルイスにフランチャイズを置くセントルイス･ラムズ(創設1987年：NFC西地区)。
1995年にロサンゼルスからセントルイスに本拠地を移したラムズは、
2000年1月に行われたスーパーボウルでは
クォーターバック(QB)のカート･ワーナー(NFL6年目)率いる爆発的な攻撃力を有し、
テネシー･タイタンズを破り見事全米チャンピオンに輝きました。
しかし、昨シーズン(2002年)のラムズは、
ワーナーをはじめエースランニングバックのマーシャル･フォーク(10年目)など
主力選手が負傷に悩まされ、7勝9敗とついに負け越して
プレーオフに出場することも出来ませんでした。
ワーナーの負傷の穴を埋めた3軍QBのマーク･ブルジャー(3年目)
が先発した試合は7勝2敗と勝利への貢献度は高く、
今シーズンは怪我から復帰するワーナーを脅かす存在になるでしょう。
ワイドレシーバーのアイザック･ブルース(10年目)とトリー・ホルト(5年目)は、
それぞれ1000ヤード以上を獲得し依然として頼りになる存在。
ドラフト1位でペン州立大学から獲得した
ディフェンスラインのジミー･ケネディーは将来性十分。
彼らの活躍により、プレーオフひいてはスーパーボウルへ出場し
是非とも王座を奪回してほしいものです。
ホームスタジアムは、ラムズの試合のときは66,000人を収容する
エドワード・ジョーンズ・ドームで、ローマ法王が説法を行ったこともあります。
1999年シーズンにラムズをスーパーボウルチャンピオンに導き
2度のNFLのMVPに輝いたワーナーも、近年は手の負傷のため調子も下降気味。
昨シーズン(2002年)は、先発した6試合全て敗れてしまい、シーズンを通して
11回のインターセプトを奪われタッチダウンはわずかに3回という記録に終わってしまいました。
このオフシーズンにはトレード話も出たほどです。
今シーズンは負傷から復帰して、優勝当時のようにハイパーオフェンスを率いて、
再びラムズを優勝に導いてほしいものです。

ワーナーが負傷で欠場し2番手のジェイミー･マーチンが不調の間、
見事にその穴を埋めたブルジャーは昨シーズン開幕時には3軍クォーターバックでした。
7試合に先発し、14タッチダウンパスを成功させました。
ワーナーとマーチンが先発した9試合でのチームの平均得点は15点であるのに対し、
ブルジャーの7試合でチームは26点を獲得しています。
今シーズンは負傷から復帰するワーナーとエースの座を掛けて熾烈な争いが予想されます。

ランプレーだけでなくパスレシーブも出来るフォークも、昨シーズンはワーナー同様負傷に悩まされ
16試合中10試合しか先発することが出来ませんでした。
それでも、212回のキャリーで953ヤードを走り、ラムズのオフェンスには欠くことのできない選手です。

昨シーズン79回のパスキャッチを記録したブルースは、
同僚のトリー・ホルトと共にそれぞれ1000ヤード以上(1075ヤード)をパスレシーブで稼ぎ出しました。
これでブルースは4年連続して1000ヤード以上を獲得したことになります。
フィールドを離れたら、地域の子供たちを試合に招待したり施設を訪問するなど
慈善活動に積極的に参加している心優しいブルース選手です。

ディック・ヴァーミール引退後、ラムズの強いオフェンス陣を育てた実績を買われ
オフェンス・コーディネーターだったマイク・マーツが監督に昇格しました。
監督に就任した2000年シーズンのラムズの成績は地区2位でプレーオフ出場、
2001年シーズンは地区1位でスーパーボウル出場。
就任してから昨年までの成績は31勝17敗です。

ジョージア・フロンティア（Georgia Frontiere）は、ラムズ名物の女性オーナーです。
元々旦那様がラムズのオーナーだったのですが、亡くなってしまった為、
彼女はフットボールのことを何にも知らないままオーナーになったそうです。
その為か、試合中も選手の所に行って雑談したりと、
とても普通の人では考えられないようなお茶目な行動をすることで知られています。
とっても可愛らしいキャラクターで、選手にも愛されているようです。
